Birdwatchers from all over the U.S. and other countries travel all the way to St. Tammany Parish for the annual Great Louisiana BirdFest! This fest is so popular because our area is a prime bird watching location and this particular festival is considered to be one of the premier birding events in the country! During the spring migration, numerous migrant bird species pass through Louisiana during their annual migration from Mexico and South America. This years fest will be held on April 5-8, 2019, at the Northlake Nature Center, a 400-acre wildlife preserve located outside of Mandeville. This center has sponsored the BirdFest for the past 22 years. The Great Louisiana BirdFest offers various self-drive field trips to areas such as Manchac Swamp, Honey Island Swamp, Bogue Chitto River Reserve Habitats and several other locations.
