Originally inhabited by the Tchoupitoulas Indians, the French first landed on the land along the Mississippi River in 1682. Years later, the city of Kenner was founded by Minor Kenner in 1855 on land that housed three plantation properties. Back then, all land north of what is present-day Airline Highway was lush swampland!

Today, Kenner is the sixth largest city in Louisiana and is located in Jefferson Parish. It is home to the local international airport, Louis Armstrong International Airport as well as many other local attractions such as the Esplanade Mall (one of the largest malls in Jefferson Parish) and the Pontchartrain Center (the second-largest convention center in the area.)

Other notable places of interest in Kenner include Rivertown, which is the historic district located along the river on Old Kenner first main street and features many museums, shops, and cultural resources, and Laketown, which is a park along the shore of Lake Pontchartrain and offers a boat launch, piers, pavilions, an exercise path, as well as a concession stand and bait house. The Kenner Parks and Recreation Department also provides many services at local public parks and hosts activities for people of all ages. Residents enjoy a close-knit community that is just minutes away from the conveniences of New Orleans and the Causeway Bridge.
